Most coffee shops are designed to maximize seating and create a lively atmosphere. Kisaku, however, embraces minimalism and “emptiness” to foster a contemplative space. This is achieved by eliminating decorations and focusing on the aesthetic value of architectural space, form, and minimalist details.
The design embraces the spirit of the existing place, transforming an ordinary house into an
extraordinary one. Through adaptive reuse and facade preservation, it creates a home-like environment rather than a busy coffee shop. With an open layout, transparent front, and visible coffee-making process, it becomes a modest, welcoming space in the neighborhood.
The “Light and Hanging” architectural concept is achieved through meticulous construction. A long white coffee counter, lifted with illuminated skirting and pebbles, creates a floating effect. Slim furniture surrounds a central zen garden, fostering openness. Tilted wood planks on the walls and ceiling add warmth and a unique composition.
A kinetic installation above the coffee bar, depicting the Kisaku logo’s crow, adds hypnotic dynamism with 25 movable wood frames and acrylic wings. These are suspended by thin wires connected to motors that create various “flying” movements.
