The design tells the story of how nature can inspire the form of architectural space through the abstraction of human experience in nature. The center space creates the experience of sitting under a big shady tree, with a six-meter diameter dome ceiling made from engineered wood and covered by 30 layers of illuminated circular plywood.
This 39 sqm retail space features a radial layout, surrounded by large slab products with a central tree installation displaying various wood species. The tree, composed of rotating plywood trays, expands upward with circular layers
resembling branches. At the top, a light membrane with changing light warmth mimics the feeling of a sunlight.
A circular parametric bench, inspired by the earth’s topography, showcases layers of plywood precision, computation, and craftsmanship. Additionally, to achieve zero waste design, the plywood waste were cast into modular timber terrazzo for flooring material.
Each big slab display layer uses sliding tracks for easy movement and appears to hang on the wall with individual linear lighting. The plug-in-and-off rack system, with tongue and groove plywood joinery, allows the grid display shelf to adjust for different product sizes.
