Dark color, high windows, and a linear terrace overviewing The Lapan retail complex characterize the architecture. The design began with an attempt to achieve structural efficiency and zerowaste material by applying a grid composition adjusted to steel modules, split into three connected rectangular forms to mitigate the massiveness of the building.
The entrance, accentuated by hanging concrete stairs, is separated from the main building by a small foyer of landscape with skylights. The limited land causes the ground floor to turn into a parking lot, while the workspaces along with playground, lounges, and leisure area reside on the upper floors.
The space under the auditorium stairs, the narrow areas between partitions, and the attic formed by the sloped roof – these typically overlooked spaces were thoughtfully designed and utilized to accommodate the growing need for individual online meetings after COVID pandemic, and to create a conducive work environment for many introverted workers.
The playground, as the main focal point, features a stepping auditorium for a hundred people with slides connecting the floors. A natural white oak partition conceals meeting rooms, phone booths, and ducting systems for a clean, minimalist look. Exposed ceilings maximize height while maintaining harmony with the surrounding one-level buildings.
